THE STORY THE VATICAN NEVER TOLD
Rome, 1977. Pope Paul VI entrusts Canadian Archbishop Édouard Gagnon with an extraordinary mission: to investigate serious allegations of corruption and infiltration within the Roman Curia. At the time, the young priest Charles Theodore Murr was living with Gagnon and became a direct witness to the threats, the pressure, and the attempts to deliver to the Pope an investigation that could implicate some of the most powerful men in the Vatican. The story reaches its climax in 1978, the Year of the Three Popes: the death of Paul VI, the thirty-three-day pontificate of John Paul I, and the election of John Paul II.Nearly half a century later, Fr. Murr recounts before our cameras what he witnessed, the people he knew, and the fate of documents that were never made available to the public.Murder in the 33rd Degree is a historical investigative documentary series based on his testimony and on his book of the same name.
